Does lunux work with bell sympatico?

I want to try this program, but does it work with sympatico?

re: Does lunux work with bell sympatico?

Linux is an operating system, like Microsoft Windows or the Mac OS. The email clients, web browsers and other internet applications available under Linux will work just fine with your Sympatico account. To learn more about Linux, visit http://www.linux.org/lessons/.    - Dan Zimmer

I want to try Ubuntu but can

I want to try Ubuntu but can I just boot on with the cd and get back to my windows xp just fine?

re: trying Ubuntu

Yes you can. Many of the current Linux variants (known as "distributions" in the Linux world) can be downloaded as a bootable "Live CD". Your system BIOS has to be configured to allow you to boot from your CD/DVD drive for this to work, and you have to download and create a "Live CD" version of Ubuntu, but neither of these is difficult to do. Instructions can be found on the Ubuntu site at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCD. This is a great way to test drive Linux before deciding to install it.

Hi, it's me again i tried

Hi,
it's me again i tried that and i like it. I have the Ubuntu 7.10 version now but can I install it on my external 20GB HD, so I can boot both Linux and XP?

re: Linux/Windows dual boot

Hi. You can install Ubuntu on any drive that can be set as your boot drive in your BIOS. To create a dual boot system, have a look at the instructions found here: http://apcmag.com/5459/dualboot_ubuntu_and_windows_xp. There are a few different ways to go about creating a dual boot system, so I'd also recommend googling "dual boot linux and windows" just to get an overview. Then you can decide which method will be best for you.

For a really interesting alternative, have a look at a Linux software application called Wine. Wine "is an Open Source implementation of the Windows API on top of X, OpenGL, and Unix." Wine allows you to run most Windows applications without even the need for having Windows installed. Don't expect it to work well with games, though.

Question

You Can Also Download A linux Emulator Can't You?

Linux/Windows dual boot

If you're serious about getting into linux its worth spending $50-150 on classes(better deal than vista), many will even throw in a basic manual with cd/dvds. If you're in the lower mainland it shouldn't be a problem finding one that fits your time/budget. Best chose for those who aren't very good with computers.
Also I often reccomend running dual hds for this as windows has a fragmentation based file system that can cause problems in the long run. Try the DVD releases for ubuntu/debian through bittorrent and install on a a primary that doesn't have your windows on it, during install the boot loader will detect windows and you allow you to choose either when your computer boots. I've never once had a problem with doing it that way on someones machine before. I wouldn't boot from an external usb drive it would slow it down quite a bit and hurt your perspective on how well linux actually performs.

Linux installation

I have an older computer which I do not want to ditch yet, 1GB memory and 80 GB Harddrive, however, I installed my previous Windows XP on a new PC and have it activated by MS. So, I need another OS and I bought Linux for Dummies which had a DVD of Fedora. I installed it but it was very frustating to get it going. I wonder if you could give me some encouragement to proceed. The book is very technical and way above my horizon.

Ubuntu 7.10

I have Ubuntu on a separate machine at home. I also have it dual booted on my ASUS G2 gaming notebook.
I prefer to use it for security purposes as I travel a lot and it is less prone to viruses. I use Vista for Dx10 gaming
and iTunes.
I've tried many flavors of Linux for 10 years but never felt it was quite "THERE"
But now with Ubuntu, I've had it on two notebooks and it just works right off the bat. Even the wireless works.

I have been a Linux for

I have been a Linux for years, I do not use Windows at all. I have tried close to twenty Linux distro's, PCLinuxOS is my favorite Linux distro to install for people who want to switch from Windows to Linux. It is very user friendly and most people who I have installed it for love it.
Myself, I use Sabayon Linux, it is very stable, modern and fast. I bought a new laptop that came pre-installed with Vista Premium, it stayed on the laptop for a couple of hours, then I wiped the drive and installed Sabayon. In my opinion, Sabayon is far superior to Vista, faster and secure.
If anyone wants to try installing Linux I recommend either of these two Linux Distro's. The install is easy and the forums have great support.
