Steve explores the main components of the digital living room. He demonstrates the seamless integration between HD TV and the Media Centre PC, and explores some of the impressive features that HP’s
MediaSmart High-Definition Television has to offer. The TV comes with three HDMI inputs so you’ll be able to connect all of your HD peripherals, like Gaming systems, cable or satellite boxes, or DVD players and receive the highest quality image. With it’s built-in
wireless Ethernet capabilities, there is no need for media extenders or other extra devices, so running cables through your house is now a thing of the past.

The heart of the Digital Living Room is the Media Centre PC. The Media Centre PC is designed to replace some of the traditional components like PVR’s and DVD players. The new version of the Media Centre software that is part of Vista has been upgraded, so you can playback multiple media types in both music and video, and watch or record tv. You can even setup future recordings based on the show’s title, or record everything with your favourite actors.

Later in the show, Steve looks at Snapfish, which is an online way to backup your photos, so your precious memories will never be lost.

On Tech Toys, Caroline looks at the Yagi antenna, a device that can help you amplify weak Wi-Fi Signals, so you can get an internet connection in areas where you may not have been able to in the past.

Media Center advice

~*LorettaB*~
I am now without kids at home to hook up my electronics which perhaps is the saddest part of the empty nest lol. I now am working towards all "my toys' and am stumped, working from the beginning in learning this stuff. I just purchased a HP Pavilion PC, an HP Laptop, (which apparently has the ability to hook up to the TV). I also just ordered a Plasma TV, so I am looking for a DVD that will be fab with it. I have also wanted a media center like the one you had on your show, do I need to purchase a Blu Ray DVD player if I have this to play DVD's or is this player just as good? I did not even know until yesterday what a HDMI cable was...when I found out I bought one but there is such a range in prices I had no idea what the differances could be. The one I bought and plugged it in to my existing DVD player into my 50inch Sony LCD and didnt notice any difference in the picture, (I am so disappointed in this pic which is why I went to plasma). I have looked but do you have a show that you did on these cables?
Thanks, GREAT SHOW for ppl like me....wish I had someone in my home for a day to hook up my house!

re: Media Center advice

Last season, we shot two episodes in the Samsung HDTV Suite, and covered TV options in depth. I believe DVD players & cables were discussed as well. Descriptions & videos of Episodes 20 & 21 of Season 5 can be found on our website: http://www.dottotech.com/episodes/season-5 .

If you want to do more research, Samsung’s High Definition TV Learning Centre is at: http://product.samsung.com/cgi-bin/nabc/campaign/university/hdtv/hdtv.js... .
