If you're a Mac user or are thinking or becoming one, you won't want to miss this show. Steve shows off some of the coolest features in Apple's latest operating system Leopard. Steve takes a look a few of the updates to Apple staple programs, like Mail and iChat. Leopard has added extra integration between Mail and other productivity applications, making it easier to update contacts and calendar appointments. All new Macs come with a built-in iSight camera, and Steve puts those new cameras to work with the latest version of iChat. With iChat, you can now have multiple logins and tabbed chatting. Steve also travels through time, with Time Machine, an amazing recovery and backup tool. It turns the mundane task of backing up and restoring files into something you might actually enjoy. Time Machine automatically backs up the contents of you computer. It doesn't just make one copy of you file though, it make a continuous string of backups over time, so you can go back and find the exact file you're looking for. It's a journey through time, without having to bend the time space continuum.

On Tech Toys, Caroline shows off two must have iPod accessories by XtremeMac. The MicroMemo turns your Video iPod into a Hi-Fi digital audio recorder. The flexible microphone captures crystal clear audio. This is a great tool for students wanting to record a lecture, business meetings or your voice when you feel like breaking into song. You'll never run out of battery power again with XtremeMac's MicroPack. This iPod dock comes equipped with a rechargeable battery that can power your iPod for an additional 80 hours of audio playing time or 8 hours of video playback. The Micropack has two headphone jacks so you can share your music and movies with a friend.

portable ipod speakers

Does anyone have a good system they recommend? Lightweight and portable is what I am looking for. Anyone used Altec Lansing iM 500?

re: portable ipod speakers

I'd look at one of Altec Lansing's non-flat panel designs, rather than the iM 500. Flat panel speakers tend to be very directional and suffer from poor bottom end performance - unless coupled with a subwoofer. Logitech, Klipsch & JBL among others also make some good iPod speakers.   - Dan Zimmer

Mac OS Leopard DVD available

Alright already! Enough with the emails! Seriously, the recent show on OS X Leopard generated a lot of viewer email. There was the expected mix:  Mac fans who had already upgraded or wanted to know if they should upgrade, other OS users wanting to know what the fuss was about, and even a few people who wondered if the upgrade to Leopard was FREE! (ps. the Linux shows were last season...). We may not cover Leopard again this season, but for those who absolutely must KNOW MORE, Class On Demand has just release their latest instructional DVD, Mac OS X Leopard Training. COD's Tom Wolsky does a pretty good job of explaining the new features. Hop over to how2video to watch the preview clip.    - Dan Zimmer

Wow!

I am not a Mac user yet, but I have been dying to become one. My parents won't let me, and at Future Shop the other day I showed them an iMac with Mac OS X, and they still weren't convinced.

I would just like to say great episode. I loved it, Dotto Tech is my new favorite show!

leopard

i watched the leopard video at apple's site, because of that i am now typing this on a leopard equipped i-mac. i have only
had it for 4 days now and have only used my windows machine to transfer files to the mac, my wife even wants to get an apple laptop and get rid of hers.

Apples' software pricy !!

I enjoy using my Apple MacBook but one area I find I have problems is iPhoto 06 and know that if
I upgraded to iPhoto 08 all my troubles would be solved....well maybe !! The trouble with Apple is that they ask far too much for their software. For me anyway as I am a pensioner living on a small income but really enjoy computers and would love to have all the latest software.

I love watching DottoTech and have learnt quite a bit from Steve's instruction. Great program Steve !
My very best wishes to you all for a happy 2008 and many more hours of webbing.
